Thankful

I have started participating in Diet Bets on dietbetter.com and I'm really enjoying it! It is GREAT motivation to lose weight, since you win money. They require you take photos of your scale and yourself, too, so it's nice to see the changes. I did a weigh-out today so I'm a little late, I guess, but I figure that's alright. I've been the same weight since the day before Thanksgiving. I'm just thankful to have not gained anything! So, my official weigh-in is 277.2, which means I've dropped 11.6 pounds since last month! I'm pretty dang happy with that!

I will be donating $11.60 to to Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project. If you'd like to match my donation, you can do so on the website by clicking here (in the notes section, please mention Pounds 4 Pooches) and if you do decide to match me, please comment below and I'll keep a running total of money raised so far as time progresses.

Keep on truckin'

Been super busy, but wanted to pop in for a quick weigh in! This month I actually got down to 287.4 right before my birthday, but then I indulged a little too much perhaps, and had to work that back off before the end of the month! So, my official weigh-in is 288.8, which means I've dropped 10.2 pounds since last month! That's exciting stuff right there. I may even soon find that I fit into some of those clothes I had gotten too big for, but decided to keep anyway.

I will be donating $10.20 to to Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project. If you'd like to match my donation, you can do so on the website by clicking here (in the notes section, please mention Pounds 4 Pooches) and if you do decide to match me, please comment below and I'll keep a running total of money raised so far as time progresses.

Indulgence

Well, imagine my surprise when I stepped on the scale this morning only to get a flat 299.0... AGAIN!

I'm less sad about this than you might think. It just lets me know I need to work harder. This last month was very crazy with FD charity events and I ate too much pizza, too many cake balls, and drank too many cape cods. So, lesson learned. But, I'm back in the saddle.

Below 300!

This is very exciting!!! I am weighing in on the 2nd instead of the 1st because I did a 3-day juice fast over the holiday weekend. So, call me a cheater if you will, but I'll take it!

I haven't seen a 2 on that scale in a long time!

I will be donating $4.80 to Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project. There WILL be celebrations!

July was not completely unsuccessful, but I am a little disappointed with myself. Remember how I said I was sick in June for 2 weeks? So I stopped working out? Well... I really stopped working out. I only *really* worked out 2 days in July, and that was actually just cleaning up my mom's old house because she just moved. I also was on vacation for a week and went swimming probably 4 days, I'd guess. I should keep better track.

But all that aside, I'm not going to let my poor performance during July get me down. Today is August 1st, it's a new day, a new month, and I'm just going to get back on that workout train!

So, my official weigh-in for Thursday, August 1, 2013: 303.8, which means I lost another 7lbs. Which really ain't too shabby, considering. I am also very excited today because I pretty sure that by the end of August, I'll be below the 300 mark for the first time in years. There WILL be celebrations!

I will be donating $7.00 to Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project. If you'd like to match my donation, you can do so on the website by clicking here (in the notes section, please mention Pounds 4 Pooches) and if you do decide to match me, please comment below and I'll keep a running total of money raised so far as time progresses.

Another 8.8 Down

It's been kind of rough... I got sick about 2 weeks ago with a chest cold and have not been able to do any effective exercising since because, hello, I could barely even breathe!

So, my official weigh-in for Monday, July 1, 2013: 310.8, which oddly enough means I lost the exact same amount of weight in June that I did in May. I'll take what I can get!

I will be donating another $8.80 to Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project. If you'd like to match my donation, you can do so on the website by clicking here (in the notes section, please mention Pounds 4 Pooches) and if you do decide to match me, please comment below and I'll keep a running total of money raised so far as time progresses.

I'll take it

My first month result were not as good as I had hoped, but I'll take what I can get. (And I know I'm late, but I kept forgetting to write this!)

I had at least one juice per day as a meal replacement and exercised a minimum of 25 minutes 4 times a week. I realize that may not seem like a lot for some people, but I've spent most of my life in a very sedentary lifestyle, so as I continue this journey, it will only get better.

Some new additions to juice this month were honeydew melon, bell peppers and I even managed to sneak half a fennel bulb into a juice, twice! Didn't even taste it. People who know me well know that I can not stand fennel, so I was proud of myself.

I did a 3-day juice fast over memorial day weekend and got down to 316.4. I was very excited because this put me at down 12 lbs for the month with 4 days left to lose even more. That's not what happened. But I refuse to beat myself up over it.

So, my official weigh-in for Saturday, June 1, 2013: 319.6 ...and I'll take it.

I will be donating $8.80 to Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project. If you'd like to match my donation, you can do so on the website by clicking here (in the notes section, please mention Pounds 4 Pooches) and if you do decide to match me, please comment below and I'll keep a running total of money raised so far as time progresses.

And so here I am.

For the last month or so, I've really tried to start taking better care of myself: juicing, exercising, eating less meat and more organic. I gave up soda in April of 2012, and I think realizing that it had been a year was what kind of motivated me. I remember I used to think there was no way I could go without drinking a delicious, ice cold, high fructose corn bev-a-reen. But a year came and went in a blink of an eye and I guess I kind of realized that... it's not that hard. If you just make a habit of something, it becomes like second nature.

And so here I am. I am officially starting a new chapter of my life. One that results in a better me, one a year from now.

Anyone who knows me personally, is aware that my passion in life is so help save animals. Mainly dogs. I spend a good deal of my time and effort volunteering and am so incredibly happy to be part of an amazing group called Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit based in the Houston, TX area, and I only point that out because a lot of non-local people often think 5th Ward must be part of New Orleans. I guess before Katrina, many people in other parts of the nation, and even the world, had never heard of sections of a city being referred to as a "Ward." But we have them here too. And 5th Ward is not the only Ward of Houston with the type of horrifying situation we face in the 5th. But I digress.

Although I give a good deal of my time and effort volunteering with this group, I never feel like it's enough. There are literally hundreds of emaciated, mangey, injured, starving, stray, neglected, chained, homeless, FORGOTTEN dogs. Since November of 2011, we have managed to rescue ~275, but if you drove around in the 5th, you'd never know it. There is an endless need. We can not take them off the street if we do not have somewhere for them to go. This is where foster homes come in. I can not foster, because I rent my house and my landlord says absolutely no more than the 2 I already have. Because I feel like I can never do enough and I am beginning a new chapter, I thought... "Why not pair the two up?"

And so here I am.

I have decided that, as I become more healthy and active and lose weight, I will do a weigh-in at the beginning of each month and for every pound that I've lost in the previous month, I will donate $1 to Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project. I hope along the way to pick up some followers and have the opportunity to have a few people (or a hundred!) willing to join me and match my monthly donations. I don't intend to post only once per month. I will use this to keep myself honest. I may just pop-in and say, "Hey! This is what was in my juice this morning!" or, "Hey! I did this much of a workout today." or even, "Damn. Today sucks and I want nothing to do with it. I ate a Whataburger. And I regret it."

I have been overweight for the majority of my life, and while I am not currently the heaviest I've ever been, I'm still embarrassingly much, MUCH heavier than I wish I were. And much, MUCH heavier than I should be. So it's kind of tough for me to post my starting weight, but I'm going to do it anyway, because if I don't, there's no point in doing this. But I promise... you have not heard the last from me.
